Project: Flickr Sprinklr

posted by Eric Appel      15 Comments

Flickr Sprinklr is an asp.net app I wrote to allow Flickr users to quickly add their photos to multiple groups. Flickr users often submit photos to 20 or more different groups, and the interface in Flickr currently requires you to submit a photo to each group one at a time. Sprinklr loads all of a user's groups into a table and then allows them to check off checkboxes for each group they would like to submit the photo to. If you save the Sprinklr Boomarklet to your browser's Links bar (Internet Explorer) or Bookmark Toolbar (Firefox) and then browse to any of your photos on Flickr, when you click the bookmarklet it will take you to the photo on Sprinklr so you can add it to groups.  If you hover over any of the group descriptions, Sprinklr will display a tooltip showing the group’s description so you can quickly see the rules for posting in each group.  To use Groupr you must of course have a Flickr account, and belonging to some groups helps as well.

For the past two days, I have not been able to get sprinklr to work, which is too bad because it is a great tool. It had been working slowly before that. It crashes with a code that says that the server "timed out"

Hi Paul. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I have been having some problems with my web host being able to consistently access the Flickr web service, but I am working through those issues with them. I have also been releasing updates in the past few days to add the comment functionality and fix other bugs. That may have corrupted the flickr web service cache, so I will flush that clean tonight. Bear with me, I am actively working on getting these things fixed!

I really love this application.
But it has several months that when I try to use it brings back this message:
Server Error in '/sprinklr' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

I'm running Safari, is there's something I can do?

Hi eric,

sprinkr is still not working. With the new photo limits on flickr, I would really like to use it again. Is there any way we can get it working again. Its a great app and very much needed. Please bring it back.

Hey Paul. I will definitely look into getting it back up and running sometime this week. Just out of curiosity, how many different groups do you belong to and how was performance for you before the site went down?

I have the same problem as Geraldo above. Do you think it's because I'm trying to access it through a network? Maybe one of the many firewalls is preventing it?

When it works it's a GREAT tool though, thanks Eric.

Eric,

I haven't been able to use Sprinklr for quite some time. Could it have something to do with the number of Groups I have linked to my Flickr account? Or possibly some of the group names including unicode characters?

I appreciate you looking into this!

Eric,

Have you had a chance to look into this? I really like your application and IMO it's the best way to manage groups.

Thank you!
